I wanted to blog about my painting experience, and let me tell you, it was quite an experience. But, I think I'm going to hold off on that a few more days. I had something else on my mind this morning.
Today I started thinking about the whole presidential election. I wasn't really thinking about anything specific about the candidates. I was thinking more along the lines of "Who?" Not who's going to win, but who would want to win? Honestly, who wants to be president anymore? Why would you put yourself through this? What are the benefits?
I know that many of the candidates say they want to help make America a better place. In my opinion, that's all a load of bull shit. Sure, they might truly want to make America a better place, but is this the way to do it? Any one of us can make America a better place by donating some time or money (if ya got it). By giving just a little bit of either of these, you yourself are helping to make America a better place.
So back to my original question. Why would anyone want to be president anymore? It can't be only to make America a better place. I've already shown an example of how you can do that and not be president. That leads me to believe that its all personal. It's wanting the power. It's wanting the limelight. It's wanting to have your name in a history book. Those aren't the right reasons. Granted, I could be wrong, and I KNOW I'm being cynical, but I don't think I'm too far from the truth, either.
Why does everything have to be about personal gain? Can't we do things just because they are the right things to do?
